!!SOLD!! 288-R1137. Model 65 Reising, Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.,
“Leatherneck” .22 Training Rifle, s/n 7355. The Reising Model 65 is a .22
caliber semi-automatic training rifle that was designed for the USMC by H&R
engineer Eugene Reising in 1942, with manufacture beginning in 1943. According
to Frank Iannamico in his book The Reising Submachine Gun Story on pages
33-36 (see our Books for Collectors & Shooters web page to purchase a copy)
“The Marines wanted a .22 caliber semi-automatic trainer that had the same
“feel” as the M1 Garand service rifle.” The Parkerized metal finish is in very
good condition as is the oil-finished stock. The front sight of this model is
of particular interest to Garand collectors as it has the same type of
protective guard blades as the M1 rifle (and M1 carbine for that matter). Unfortunately,
someone, for whatever reason, replaced the original front sight with an M14
front sight; this is reflected in the price.
