!!SOLD!! 288-R1131. M1917 Rifle, Remington Arms Co., s/n 538084 (fall 1918). This
is a nice looking, substantially original rifle with original blued finish on
nearly all parts. The blued finish is in good condition with only the trigger
guard and floor plate appearing to be of the early Parkerized finish. The R
9-18 barrel has a bright and shiny bore with MW = 2.0+. Nearly all of the parts
are of Remington manufacture, marked R or with the eagle head and proper Remington
inspector numbers (see Ferris’ book United States Rifle Model of 1917),
including the bolt (which also has the full s/n stamped on the handle), bolt
stop, rear sight leaf, rear sight slide, lower band, front sight carrier, front
sight blade, floor plate, magazine spring, trigger guard, and stock. A few
parts are marked with an E for Eddystone, they are the bolt sleeve, magazine
follower, and floor plate catch. The unsanded Remington stock is in very good
condition and marked with an R on the end and has clearly visible eagle head
stamps with inspection number forward and rearward of the trigger guard. On the
underside of the barrel is faintly stamped P1917 30 06 CDI
SWAN VT. Sale includes a M1917
sling (Kerr No-Buckle) and thong and oiler case with brass thong. In my 30 years
of martial arms collecting I have found blued Model 1917 rifles to be among the
most scarce of general issue 20th century US martial arms. The vast majority
were rebuilt and Parkerized between the wars. We have been able to offer very
few over the years. The Model 1917
rifle was the predominant rifle used by U.S.
troops in World War I. The M1917 rifles are rapidly growing in popularity among
collectors. If you are interested in Model 1917 rifles be sure to buy an
autographed copy of the book on them that we publish. Be sure to check the
“Other Collectible Stuff” page for a M1917 Remington bayonet with scabbard to
go with this rifle. This is a nice looking example. - $895
