I have a confession to make: “I
am a closet Japanese rifle, pistol, and sword collector.” I have collected them
for many years, particularly Type 99 Short Rifles. Because of this a close
friend recently informed me that he was selling his Japanese firearms
collection and offered me the opportunity to have first pick of what he was
selling for my collection. After buying one or two for myself, I offered to
sell the remainder for him by local private sale and on my Web site. This is a
one-time thing as a favor to a friend and I will not be accepting any Japanese
or non-US military firearms for consignment sale.
!!SOLD!! 288-J001. Japanese Type 44 Carbine, Kokura
Arsenal, Third variation, Series 1, s/n 08447. This is the 3rd and last production variation of the Type
44 carbine which features a strengthened nose cap. Overall this carbine is in
very good to excellent condition. The original blued finish is excellent including
the folding spike bayonet. It has an excellent condition chrome-lined bore that
is not pitted and shows no noticeable wear. The nose cap matched the receiver
number. The bolt is correct in type but does not carry the same number that is
found on the receiver. The mum is complete and not defaced. All other marking
are present and clean. There is an action cover with the rifle that is not
numbered to the receiver. The stock is in very good condition and has not been
refinished. It shows three proof characters on the underside of the stock. This
is a nice looking example that need never be upgraded. - $750

!!SOLD!! 288-J002. Japanese Type 99 Short Rifle, Kokura
Arsenal, Series 24, s/n 33557. This original
rifle is in excellent condition with outstanding original bluing. The mum,
arsenal markings, type and serial number are all sharp and clear. There is a very
small amount of minor freckling along the exposed top of the barrel. Matching
numbers are found on the receiver, bolt body, firing pin, bolt knob, extractor
and bayonet lug. In short it has all the proper matching numbers. In addition
it even has a matching numbered action cover! The chrome-lined bore is in excellent
condition, is not pitted, and shows no noticeable wear. The stock is original finish
and is in very good condition for both appearance and finish. There are two
proof characters on the underside of the stock. The original monopod is
attached to the stock, the rear sight has correct functional AA wings, and the
original cleaning rod is present. This is a very nice looking rifle and is
equal to the example in my collection. - $950

!!SOLD!!
288-J003. Japanese Type 99 Short Rifle, Tokyo Juki Kogyo
Arsenal, Series 37, s/n 20648. This is a matching-numbers rifle. Both the bolt body and
its component parts have matching numbers as does the front band. The mum has
been so lightly defaced that it is barely noticeable; I can only presume that
who ever was striking the mum was a friend of the future owner as I have never
seen one with so little damage. The original blued finish is in very good
condition. The bore is bright, not pitted, and shows no noticeable wear. The
unsanded stock is in very good condition. There are two proof characters on the
underside of the stock. The rifle has correct features which include a rear
sight without AA wings in place and no monopod installed on the monopod type middle
band. An original cleaning rod is with the rifle. This is a nice looking
example of a rifle with interesting transitional features. - $595

!!SOLD!!
288-J004. Japanese Type 2 Paratrooper Rifle, Nagoya Arsenal, s/n
9553. This is an excellent condition
paratrooper rifle. The blued finish is in excellent condition and the
chrome-lined bore is bright, not pitted, and shows no noticeable wear. The mum
is lightly filed over about 1/2 of its area; it is not that noticeable. The number
on the bolt matches the receiver number and the barrel and both portions of the
take down mechanism have the typical different matching numbers. This is
correct on a paratrooper rifle. The front band number is not matched to the
receiver. The stock is unsanded and is in excellent condition with two crisp
original proof characters on the underside of the stock. The rear sight has
correct functional AA wings, and the original cleaning rod is present. There is
a reason paratrooper rifles aren’t often encountered. The total production
including the experimental models is believed to be around 30,000 weapons. Add
to that the rapidly increasing numbers of individuals collecting Japanese
weapons and you have a classic supply and demand situation. If you want one,
don’t wait too long. I doubt that the prices will be dropping any time soon. -

good condition with typical holster wear of a service-used revolver. The barrel, cylinder, and extractor star are matched by
assembly part number (27). The barrel has a second assembly number (13) which
matches a number found on the left side of the frame
under the grip panel. The internal parts are not numbered. The revolver has a
sharp, bright bore in very fine condition. The mechanical condition of the
pistol is excellent. It functions very well and locks up tightly when the
trigger is pulled. Included in the sale are the following accoutrements:
Leather clam shell holster in good to very good condition, and original
revolver cleaning rod. These revolver cleaning rods are scarce and are worth a
good bit on their own. - $695
