The Sweep of History

Fourth John C. Garand Memorabilia Sale

INTENT: It is the intent of this sale to offer to the M1 Rifle collector and historian one-of-a-kind articles that were the personal property of Mr. John C. Garand, inventor of the U.S. Rifle, Cal. .30, M1. This sale is being run in the most cost effective and efficient way possible for the financial benefit of the Garand family. All items offered are guaranteed to have been owned by Mr. Garand. The family has requested that small lots be offered so that as many collectors as possible may be able to afford to own something of Mr. Garand’s.

Over 140 items are available. Each item listed has a discrete item number, description, and specified selling price. A wide variety of items are being offered. Including: M1 rifle components, components from Mr. Garand-designed early semiautomatic rifle prototypes, manuals, ammunition, autographed membership cards from late in his life (NOTE: Throughout the course of Mr. Garand’s life two very distinct autographs existed. The signature from Mr. Garand’s youth and prime, and into his early retirement years reveals a very smooth flowing signature. As Mr. Garand reached advanced years it is obvious that his hand had began to tremor, as often happens with the elderly. The autograph from his later years is quite shaky and features none of the smoothness of the earlier years.), envelopes addressed to Mr. Garand, drafting equipment, photographs, programs, machinist’s tools, and machine tools. This sale offers a large quantity of tools and tooling. These are the actual items that Mr. Garand used in the Model Shop during his years of employment as an Ordnance Engineer at Springfield Armory. They are of extreme historical significance.

No photos are available as we are trying to keep the expenses to the Garand family low. Time is also of the essence, as the proceeds of this sale will help Dick and Kathy Garand in their retirement years. Dick has retired and Kathy wants to retire by the end of the year.

We have all had a lot of fun collecting Mr. Garand’s rifle. Now due to the kindness of the Garand family, we each have an opportunity to place an article into our collection that has the “human touch” of our favorite rifle’s inventor, Mr. John C. Garand.
