No FFL or C&R is required for shipment of Flintlock Muskets
!!SOLD!! 0212-R1548. M1812 Flintlock Musket, Springfield Armory (1816) from the Scott Duff
Collection. This is an original flintlock musket that collector’s have
described as a Model 1812 Type III U.S.
Flintlock Musket manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1816 of which only about
15,000 were produced. Manufacture of the Type III
ran from 1816 through 1818 with most often encountered having been manufactured
in 1818. This is an early example. One of the noteworthy features of the M1812
is an oval cheek recess or cut-out on the left side of the stock. This allowed
for better positioning of the face when sighting for aimed fire. The defining
feature of the Type III is that the bands
are secured with band springs. This is an original flintlock that was never
converted to percussion. Any aged patina was cleaned off long ago and the metal
is a uniform speckled bright throughout. A clearly visible US
acceptance stamp is located on the left side flat of the stock. The original
button-head ram rod is the correct type and is of one-piece. An original SA
Model 1812 flintlock musket is fairly scarce and not often encountered. Sale
includes a thin piece of sheet lead holding in the original period black
British flint that was recovered from a sunken British ship wreck and was
installed by Scott Duff. This flintlock musket has been in the Scott Duff
collection since February 1999. Sale
includes a letter verifying provenance to the Scot Duff collection. - $2,550

!!SOLD!! 0212-R1549. M1816 Flintlock Musket, Springfield Armory (1832). This is a very good
condition original flintlock musket that collector’s have described as a Model
1816 Type III U.S. Flintlock Musket
manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1832. It has been in the same
collection for a very, very long time. The barrel plug and lock with brass pan are
dated 1832. According to researcher and author George D. Moller in his book American
Military Shoulder Arms, Vol. 2, browned finish parts were used on the
M1816’s from the first quarter of 1820 through the third quarter of 1832. After
that National Armory Bright parts were used by Springfield Armory until the end
of M1816 production in 1840. The barrel, barrel bands, butt plate, side plate,
trigger guard assembly, side plate, sling swivels, trigger, and heads of screws
have their original browned finish that are in very good condition. Only the
butt plate and some screw heads are in lesser condition. Model 1816 muskets
with this good of browned finish are rarely encountered today. The un-sanded
stock is in excellent condition with sharp edges and two deeply struck
cartouches (ET and ?W). When I received this musket it was missing the top jaw
and screw of the cock. I purchased those reproduction parts from S&S
Firearms. They need fitting and installed. The parts are included in the sale.
The ramrod is of one-piece and is the correct type. This is a very good
condition early 19th century flintlock. - $2,995
