Scott A. Duff:
Biography

Scott Duff's interest in firearms and their history began in the 1950s as a result of hours spent leafing through his father’s "Guidebook for Marines" and watching John Wayne in "The Sands of Iwo Jima" too many times. At age ten his father taught him to shoot a rifle; he was hooked!

A series of visits to the Springfield Armory National Historic Site Museum in the early 1980s helped center his firearm interests on Historic Martial Arms. Participation in DCM service rifle competition and charter membership in the Garand Collectors Association further focused his interest on the M1 Garand. He acquired his first M1, a Winchester, from the DCM in 1985.

His questions concerning the history and production of the M1 rifle found few answers. Thus, he began a ten-year research effort that resulted in the publication of The M1 Garand: World War II. Now, in addition to seven books, Mr. Duff has also written over forty-five firearms related articles for various publications including American Rifleman, Guns & Ammo, Garand Collectors Association Journal, Garand Stand Report, and Garand Times. He co-authored and published Arms For The Nation, the bicentennial commemorative history of Springfield Armory. He also served as USMC uniform, equipment, and weapons consultant for the book entitled Pearl Harbor and the War in the Pacific by Salamander Books Ltd. of London, England. As president of Scott A. Duff Publications he has edited and published several books on military accoutrements and militaria.

Mr. Duff is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association, the Garand Collector's Association (where he serves on the Board of Directors), the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, the Pennsylvania Gun Collectors Association, the Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Society, the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, Inc., and the Marine Corps Historical Foundation.

He has also served as a consultant on Historic Martial Arms to the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, the U.S. Army Center for Military History, Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum, and to The Director of Civilian Marksmanship/Civilian Marksmanship Program. He has presented numerous speeches for the NRA, gun collecting organizations, CMP rifle clubs, and Marine Corps League detachments. He attends many of the major gun shows in the Northeast.

In addition to the M1 Garand, Mr. Duff studies and collects a variety of Historic U.S. Martial Arms, ranging from the American Revolution to the Korean War. He also collects USMC uniforms, equipment, shoulder sleeve insignia, and knives.
